The meeting of Christ with the woman at the well, the Samaritan woman, is an ikon of the self-revelation of Jesus as the Anointed One (ha-Moshiach) of Israel. This important event is commemorated on the fourth Sunday after Pascha. The woman herself, known to us by the name Photiní (the enlightened) is an isapóstolos (equal to the Apostles), and also is depicted on her own ikon.
